ALVIN ONG (b. 1988) synthesizes histories, mythologies and folk-forms into surreal improvisations and non-linear narrative structures. His painting practice expands and contracts to contain the gamut of human expression: from the playful to the ironic, the unique and redundant, to the sublime and the banal. Restless and unsettled, his characters remain enigmatic. They wander off into distant regions, a part yet apart, morphing into distorted rhythms or quotations of other characters; shape-shifting and extending themselves infinitely.
